Sandbar friends Ryan and Megan sent us a picture featuring Sandbar shirts from their recent vacation. Here's what they had to say about their trip:
We
hiked to the top of Observation Point in Zion National Park, an 8 mile
round trip hike, with an elevation increase of 2100 feet in the first
four miles. When we got the top, you could see forever and we were
sure thinking that a drink at the Sandbar sure sounded good about
then!
A cool, refreshing Sandbar drink would be the perfect way to top off a hike up a mountain, no?
We also got a postcard from them while they toured breweries in Fort Collins.

We're just a tiny bit jealous of their trip. But we're thankful that they thought of us while they were out doing fun stuff! Thanks Ryan and Megan!

We've got a lot of stuff on our walls, but Dave always manages to squeeze more stuff up there if it's worthy. We think you'll like the latest addition.
When Dave, Andrew and Joe were in Vegas last month, they went to Diablo's on the Strip. The bar had a spinning wheel they used for specials- different shots and drinks listed on the wheel, and the staff would spin the wheel every half hour. Whatever they landed on was the special for that next half hour.
Dave was inspired by the wheel, but of course it had to be adapted for Kansas and our strict liquor laws. Any special we run has to be the same all day, we can't change prices during the day.
We get a lot of people who come in and want to have a round of shots with their group, but they don't know what they want. Bartenders always have a go-to shot, but it gets boring suggesting Alabama Slammers all the time.
So, here's our version of Diablo's wheel.
It has different shots- from Dirty Bananas to Big Wave Daves and Tootsie Rolls to all the flavored Skittle vodka shots. The bartender spins the wheel, and whatever it lands on, that's the shot. It's not a game, and the prices aren't any different than normal; it's just a fun interactive way to help customers decide.
Stop by and let us know what you think!

Joe's getting married in September. Andrew just turned 21. Those two "factors" combined into one trip to Las Vegas. But first, everyone had to get there…
Dave, Andrew and Frank left Kansas City on a Friday. Joe took a different flight out of KCI that day, and he was flying alone because everyone else was scared to take the same plane had conflicts with his schedule.
Here's where "the Factor" struck.
As Joe's plane approached the Denver airport and attempted to land, a microburst hit. And you thought microbursts were made-up weather occurrences that only hit Lawrence! This one apparently hit the plane, because Joe said people were tossed around and getting sick and everything.
The plane was diverted to Colorado Springs because the FAA issued a ground stop at the Denver airport. The plane was almost out of fuel and couldn't go to another airport or continue on to Vegas. Joe said they were stuck waiting in the plane for four hours before refueling and flying back to Denver.
Of course, as Joe's luck would have it, there weren't any more flights to Vegas Friday night. And the wonderful airline didn't offer to put him up in a hotel room, so the poor bachelor spent part of his bachelor party weekend sleeping in the Denver airport. (Trust me, that's not a party. I've been there. Literally.)
Joe finally made it to Vegas on Saturday, where he happily celebrated with Dave, Andrew, Frank and twenty of his closest friends.
We love you, Joe, and we're glad you're home safe now.

We're very excited to announce a brand new summer contest!
As you know, it's been a long time since we've had a new hurricane video. The current video was filmed over Labor Day weekend of 2007, and it was unveiled on New Year's Eve that year. It's almost three years old!
This time, for our fifth installment of the video, we want to involve YOU. We want you, the fans, to create your own video clip about "What Not To Do During a Hurricane." You've seen those segments on our previous videos- they're always funny and we think you can create some great ones.
It doesn't have to be a fancy professional recording. Use your Flip, your phone, or your camera. Just keep it to less than ten seconds, please!
Here are the rules:
- Create your video featuring "What Not To Do During a Hurricane" in less than ten seconds
- Upload it to YouTube and tag it with "sbhurricane"
- Send us a link: tweet it to us, post it on our Facebook page, or email it to us
Submissions are accepted through August 7. Be sure to follow all of the rules above to be considered!
Starting August 7, the public will vote on their favorite video clips. We'll select some finalists based on the votes. We'll announce the finalists at our block party on August 14, and you'll have one night to vote for your favorite clip.
The winning video clip will be featured in our new hurricane video! The winner will also receive a prize package featuring free sandwiches for a year from our sponsor, the Sandbar Sub Shop, which opens this month in Lawrence.
Be creative! We can't wait to see what you come up with.
