Here's a nice little note one of our customers left for Dave last Friday night.

Boston_note

Dave was feeling especially patriotic on Friday. He played Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." Since this is the Sandbar, he also played "Party in the USA." And a few other America-themed songs he found.

Thanks for the note, girl in America sweater. We always appreciate it when customers like our music selection, and we especially love napkin notes.

We're sorry to hear about your family members who were injured in Boston, and we hope they recover quickly.

Vote for Peach’s niece Katlyn!

Hey Sandbar friends!

Our fearless founder Peach's niece has been nominated for some awards, and you can help her win!

Katlyn Conroy (if you're a regular, you probably also know her dad Patrick- he hangs out here a lot!) has been nominated for Best Female Singer/Songwriter in the Pitch annual music awards. Her band, Cowboy Indian Bear, has also been nominated in the rock category.

Katlyn has worked really hard this year touring, writing and recording. Let's help her add another accomplishment to the list! You may remember that Katlyn has played at our block party before (and we hope she'll do so again).

Click here to vote. Fair warning: there's a quick registration required, but it's really easy and doesn't take very much time at all. It's really easy to vote, too.

Thanks, friends! We appreciate your help in supporting part of our Sandbar family!

Shark Attack and the Randy Rogers Band

Even though the Sandbar is a tropical bar with every Jimmy Buffett CD on the jukebox, we appreciate a wide variety of music. From Elvis to the Blackeyed Peas to Captain and Tennille and everything in between, you can bet that someone in the bar loves whatever song is playing at the moment.

We also have a soft spot for old-school country and the newer country/rock music out of Texas. Our buddy Justin has a weekly radio show, Kansas City Limits, and plays all the songs we love to listen to. Many of the bands travel through Kansas frequently, often playing at the Bottleneck or the Granada, and the Sandbar has become sort of an unofficial pre/post show party spot.

Last weekend, one of our favorites, the Randy Rogers Band, was in town for a show. We spotted this picture from the band's Twitter feed:

Great to see visitors to our beautiful downtown enjoying our shark attack!

Sandbar Shirt on a CD

We've got lots of pictures of Sandbar shirts in all kinds of fun places, like tropical islands and mountaintops and foreign countries, but this might be a first.

We recently spotted one of our shirts on the inside cover of a music CD!

One of Dave's favorite bands, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, travels through the Lawrence and Kansas City a few times a year, and he tries to make it to every show. Once upon a time, he gave Roger, the band's pedal steel/guitar player, a Sandbar shirt. We've been pleasantly surprised to see it make a public appearance a few times.

The band recently released a new CD, and Dave downloaded it from iTunes. Then, one of our Facebook fans (thanks Brandon!) posted a picture and a comment on our Facebook page letting us know that Roger is wearing his Sandbar shirt on a photo inside the CD's cover!

Boland
Like any good fan, Dave then went out and bought not one, but two copies of the CD. Unless you know our shirts, you wouldn't be able to tell it's a Sandbar shirt…but we definitely recognize it.

The Stragglers will be in Lawrence this Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Granada. If you like good Americana/red dirt/Texas country music, check them out. And stop by the Sandbar before the show for a pre-party; we like to think we've become the unofficial pre-party spot for these type of shows.

Peter Mayer Group in Lawrence this Sunday

Here's a piece of exciting news for Jimmy Buffett fans: Peter Mayer, the guitarist for the Coral Reefer Band, is live in concert this Sunday in Lawrence!

You may not know that Peter Mayer has his own band, the Peter Mayer Group. They've actually performed small concerts at the Sandbar three times over the years, and they've always been a huge hit. (And sold out quickly.) He doesn't play Buffett tunes, though- he has plenty of his own songs that range from jazz, country, classical and gospel. It's good stuff.

This Sunday, the Peter Mayer Group is performing a benefit concert at Abe & Jake's. All of the ticket sale proceeds will go to eleven African countries for malaria treatment, prevention and education.

  • Date: Sunday, Oct. 30
  • Time: 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Abe & Jakes, Downtown Lawrence
  • Cost: $20 online or $25 at the door

There's a VIP ticket option available for $100, and it includes a reception at 6 p.m. with appetizers, drinks, an auction and special seating for the concert.

To purchase tickets, click here. We'd love to see a contingent of Sandbar fans at this show, especially those of you who have missed out on the shows at the Sandbar in the past!

Thanks to our friends at 23rd Street Brewery for helping put on this concert and letting us know about it!
