Purses Full of Sharks

Dave had an interesting story when he came home from his late-night shift on Friday night.

A group of girls came up to the bar and informed him that between them, they had so many sharks from the Shark Attack drink that they felt bad. They thought they needed to return the sharks to us.

Next thing he knew, all four girls started pulling sharks out of their purses and piling them on the bar. He said the sharks just kept coming and coming out of their purses. There were a few ducks mixed in the pile, too.

He took a picture of the girls with their sharks, and we'll print it out and hang it somewhere on the wall.

Thanks Alicia, Shannon, Liz and Lindsay. We'll find a good home for your recycled sharks!

How many drink toys do you have, and where do they live? We'd love to see your pictures! Submit them to sandbar@thesandbar.com.

Sandbar Tee in Cancun

The Sandbar-around-the-world pictures tend to come in batches. We don't see any new ones for months, and then all of a sudden we get them from five different people.

Lately, the pictures have been mostly from warm, tropical destinations, which has us itching for a vacation.

The most recent pictures are from my brother, Mike, and his new wife Mandi. I forgot to give them new Sandbar shirts before they went on their honeymoon to Cancun, so they grabbed a couple of Mike's old shirts to take along for photo opps.

The top photo is pretty fuzzy, but I liked the background. Mike & Mandi visited Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville on their excursion outside the resort. We're proud of them for remembering to take Sandbar shirts on their honeymoon! Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Pictures from the Tour of Lawrence event and party

Our friend Matt emailed us this week and offered to share some of the photos he took at last weekend's Tour of Lawrence street sprints and block party, so that we could share them with you.

He took over a hundred great shots, and we picked out some of our favorites:

The Sandbar on Instagram

Because we need yet another social media sharing site, right?

If you haven't heard of Instagram, it's a fun photo app for the iPhone that lets you take pictures, add cool filters and then share it on Facebook, Twitter or Flickr. You can also follow other Instagram users, "like" their pictures and leave comments.

We set up an account a long time ago, when Instagram first arrived on the scene, but we haven't done much with it. Recently, we decided to check it out again and fell in love.

You might have noticed the pictures on our recent blog about the Tour of Lawrence street party, or the picture yesterday of the gifts we got from Katy. Those were all taken with Instagram, with funky filters applied. It makes our pictures look better.

We were also surprised that so many other Instagram users had started following us, despite the fact that we had posted no pictures in months. Thank you, friends! If you're on Instagram, find us- our username is thesandbar.

We promise to start using Instagram more often, and we promise to share some of the pictures with those of you who are iPhone-less.

More about Instagram here.

Gifts from Customer Katy

We got a surprise in the mail recently: fun gifts from Katy, a Sandbar regular who has since moved away from Lawrence. Katy was profiled on our blog last year as a 2010 graduate, and we compiled all her favorite memories of the Sandbar into one post.

A small package arrived the other day with this:

A nice note from Katy accompanied the sticker and duckie:

Dear Dave & the Sandbar crew:

I found this sticker on my vacation and couldn't resist sending it to ya'll. I also won this basketball duckie just for you, dave, since I have so many Sandbar ducks I thought this basketball one was appropriate for you. Miss you all and hope to visit soon!

Thanks for thinking of us, Katy! We'll be sure to put the sticker and duckie in a place of honor at the Sandbar, and we hope you can make it back for a visit soon!
