Just when we thought we'd seen it all, and encountered our share of stupid behavior (see the stories about the attempted table theft and the graffiti on our building), the morons of the world proved us wrong.
Last night, someone thought it would be fun to not only bust the sink in the men's bathroom off the wall, but they also broke the toilet. We also know that someone was spotted in the bathroom taking photos of the damage last night, and we suspect it might have been the vandal. So, if you see pictures pop up on the internet somewhere other than here, please let us know!

(They didn't pull the toilet all the way out from the wall; but I didn't get a picture of it before Dave started working on it.)
So Dave spent Friday afternoon serving as the Sandbar plumber (minus the crack). Big thanks to Habitat's ReStore, though- that's where he found a new sink for a mere $15. Dave is the ReStore's number one fan. That's also where he found the ginormous roll of brown vinyl material that we used to cover our St. Patrick's Day float volcano.
We're hoping this is the end of the stupid. Things come in threes, right?
And to whoever vandalized our bathroom: please don't come back.

Our good friends Tony and Pam moved away from Lawrence last year, and we were thrilled to get an email from them recently.
They went to the New Orleans Jazz Fest with their friends Scott and Valarie, where our idol Jimmy Buffett was the headliner, and according to Tony, the group "proudly sported their Sandbar official club members uniform!"

Here's a couple other pictures Tony sent us:

Thanks, guys, we miss you in Lawrence!

If you hang out on the Sandbar patio for even a short period of time, you'll hear some pretty funny stuff.
Here's a few gems from last Friday night.
Is it raining?
A patron who shall remain nameless suddenly exclaimed that it was raining. No one really believed her; the sky was clear and blue, even though it was getting dark, and there were no signs of imminent rain or storms anywhere. And it was hot. And no one else felt raindrops.
About an hour later, she realized that her cup was leaking, and every time she took a drink she felt "raindrops" on her arms and legs.
You got a smoke?
People on the patio get this a lot. But they probably don't always get the question from the ultimate cougar: feathered, bleached blond hair, short shorts, extra heavy makeup and heels. We're pretty sure she didn't believe that no one in the party had a cigarette.
I'm a puma.
The cougar conversation led directly into the puma conversation. If you're not quite old enough to be a cougar- what is the defining age, anyway?- but you fit the basic criteria, apparenty you can be a puma. I think she just liked saying the word, to be honest.
Are those bats?
Apparently lots of people walk out of the Sandbar and immediately look up to see weird, white, glowing bird-like things flying around. A big debate ensued as to whether they were bats, or pigeons, or some kind of hawk. No one really knew, but the bat story was the most popular.
What have you heard on the patio?

Dave was working late one night upstairs in the office. He heard someone coming up the stairs and assumed it was Tyler, heading into the upstairs front room to turn off the neon lights in the windows. He even caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of his eye as he passed the office door.
Dave walked into the front room, but didn't see Tyler anywhere.
He went downstairs, where he found Tyler cleaning up. Dave asked him if he'd been upstairs at all, and Tyler said no.
This is the first sighting of the Sandbar ghost. We've heard lots of stories of the ghost playing tricks on the staff, but to my knowledge no one has actually seen the ghost yet. Until now.

Long-time regular customer Molly recently went to the Bahamas (we're really jealous) and took her Sandbar shirt along for the obligatory photo opp.
Here's her story:
I had been planning on this trip since January, I went to get my passport for it and everything! My cousin Tyler and his fiance Annie planned a destination wedding for April 30, 2011 and I was so happy to be able to go! I went down the Thursday before with members of my extended family and we all made a vacation out of it. (How could we not, it was The Bahamas!)
One week before we were scheduled to fly out, I, being the obvious animated klutz that I am, tripped and broke the first bone to ever be broken in my body, my right wrist. I decided when getting my cast to 1. splurge and get the waterproof version (for obvious reasons – the pool) and 2. get the brightest color I could, no point in getting down while in such a tropical place! So I went with bright yellow - cast was hidden in many of the trip pictures – especially the wedding photos. 🙂
It didn't get in the way of my fun though, we got to visit Atlantis, walk through street markets they call "Straw Markets," ride around Paradise Island on a glass bottom boat, and lounge on the white sand beaches! The wedding was Saturday at sunset, right on the beach and was perfect! Tyler and Annie are so happy, and we were all so happy we got to be a part of their special day, while at the same time having a vacation with our family that was amazing!
My Sandbar picture was taken at the gazebo where we had the rehersal dinner at our hotel, right behind me is the beach that we played on all weekend! Thanks for letting me share my fun trip with you!
Here's a couple more pictures of the Bahamas that Molly sent us, so you can be jealous too:
