Halloween Pint Glasses

Recently we asked our fans to submit their ideas for our 2011 Halloween pint glasses. We got a lot of great submissions, and it was hard to choose- so we picked two! Choosing a design is always the hardest part, and we wish we could print everybody's design on a glass.

Here is Mike's design, a tiki head modified into Frankenstein:

And here is Chelsea's design, a mermaid lounging under a palm tree with various Halloween props:

Aren't they great?! Our customers do a much better job of designing our pint glasses than we do. Pint glasses are $3 each, and these will be available soon. We'll let you know. Repeat: they will be available soon and are not in yet, so don't come down to buy one or you'll be disappointed. We will let you know as soon as they're here!

And we'll have short profiles of our designers posted here soon, too.

Design our next pint glass!

Our customer-designed pint glasses have been extremely popular this past year, and we're ready to crowdsource another one. Next up, one of our favorite holidays: Halloween!

Check out last year's Thanksgiving, winter, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and graduation pint glasses for examples.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • The design has to be a black and white line art drawing. We only print single-color designs, so a design with multiple colors won't work. Shadows and other shading won't work either.
  • Keep it simple. Remember, pint glasses aren't huge and the design will only be a few inches in size. The design should be fairly basic and not have a lot of tiny detail, and it should also translate well to a small size.
  • You don't need to include the Sandbar name or logo. Our logo will be on the other side of the glass.

Our panel of judges will choose their favorite design that also meets the above requirements. It's also possible that we'll choose more than one. And it's also possible that we might combine elements from more than one design into a new design.

And if you can't draw or use design programs on a computer, don't worry! We've received crude hand-drawn submissions before from people with great ideas, and that's fine. Dave can take the idea and create a graphic for our printers. Anyone is welcome to submit an idea!

What do you get if your design is chosen? Well, our undying gratitude and fifteen minutes of fame on our blog, for one. We'll also give you a pack of pint glasses and a T-shirt of your choice.

So, get busy designing! Submissions can be emailed to sandbar@thesandbar.com. And our next customer-designed glass will be for our popular Bahama Mama drink, so start thinking about that one.

Disclaimer stuff: submitting your design to us gives us full rights to use it on our websites, social networking sites and merchandise. We'll give you credit everywhere we can, of course.

Shark Fest 2011 T-shirts and pint glasses

We've got another new T-shirt!

If you didn't know already, we print a lot of our own T-shirts. Several years ago, Dave converted a tiny room in the office from an overstuffed costume closet that no one could even get in to a screenprinting room complete with a toilet. For those times when the female staff needs to use the facilities and there's a group of women camped out in the downstairs bathroom.

Since our colored logo T-shirts sell better than any other shirt we stock, we just print them ourselves.

Dave created a Shark Fest 2011 design for our block party next week and art director Justin printed it on the back of our blue logo T's:

The shirts are in-stock behind the bar, and they're $12 each. We've got sizes from small to double extra large.

This same Shark Fest design will be available on new pint glasses sometime next week, so you can add to your pint collection too.

Sandbar 2011 Graduation Pint Glasses

Hey, class of 2011! Our annual commemorative graduation pint glasses are in!

Picture 1 This year's design features the Sandbar tiki head as a graduate, complete with a cap, gown and diploma.

Unlike most of you, however, our graduate gets to stand on a beach, surrounded by palm trees.

Long-time customer and friend Becki came up with the idea for this design, and Dave put the finishing touches on it.

The other side of the glass has the Sandbar logo.

We ordered a double batch of these; half are blue, and half are red.

Our pint glasses are $3 each, so stop by and pick one up for yourself or your favorite graduate before they're gone!

Graduation Pint Glasses

It's almost that time again- graduation in Lawrence!

Every year, our graduation pint glasses are a popular gift item. And since we've been outsourcing our pint glass designs to our customers, the glasses have been even more popular.

We're looking for a great design to commemorate Graduation 2011.Picture 3

Here's what last year's design looked like. Keep in mind, KU isn't the only school in town, and we also can't use any licensed images, like a Jayhawk. The design needs to be a pretty generic graduation design, though it should have a Sandbar flair!

There's no need to incorporate the Sandbar logo, because that will be on the other side of the glass.

Also, the design should be fairly simple, black and white line art. You don't have to be a design student or a professional to do this! Anyone can submit an idea, and if we like it and it's suitable for printing on a glass, we'll use it.

You'll get a pack of pint glasses and a T-shirt along with our eternal thanks and fifteen minutes of internet fame.

If you've got a design idea, email it to us at sandbar@thesandbar.com. We'd like to have the glasses available for purchase by around May 10, so the sooner we can get the design ready the better.

We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Clearance: 21st Birthday T-Shirts

Our 21st birthday party is a fond memory, and we still love the T-shirt design that Hasty Awards in Ottawa created to commemorate the fun.

But we're looking ahead to our next big birthday, and we're ready to say goodbye to the leftover T-shirts.

So, we're having a clearance sale. Birthday shirts are on sale for only $8. People, that's a steal.Clearance shirt

Sizes are limited- we have a few smalls, a lot of mediums and even more larges. That's it. And when they're gone, they're gone forever.

Side note: these make great gifts for that friend who might be turning 21 soon…
