Excited for the block party tomorrow? We are! Here's a list of random party tips for you.
1. Bring cash. The beer garden is cash only and we're not running tabs out there. You can run tabs or use credit cards inside, but it'll be harder to get a drink inside.
2. There will be food. Sandbar Subs will have sandwiches and BBQ brisket for sale. Other downtown businesses might have stuff available too.
3. Dress comfortably. You'll be standing, walking or dancing all night. Don't wear heels, your feet will hate you. And it might be hot.
4. Drink specials. $4 cans of Bud, Bud Light, Corona and Red Stripe.
5. Tropical Drinks. This year we'll have Bahama Mamas and Shark Attacks in the beer garden for $5 (same price inside). They'll be in a special hibiscus print plastic cup that you get to keep, along with beads. Those are your toys, we aren't doing any other toys (including sharks) to keep things moving. We'll squirt the shark blood.
6. Recycling. We'll have a couple of bins outside for cans only. Please don't put trash in them. And please put your cans in the right bin. We're not sorting through trash but we'd like to donate as many cans as possible.
7. Music. Three bands, music starts shortly after 5. The Sandbar's dancers will perform at 8.
8. Cover Charge. It's $5 to get into the beer garden and you must be 21. You'll get a wristband that allows you to come & go without paying another cover charge.
9. Pictures. We love pictures! And video! Shoot your own and send it to us. Here's a list of what you can do, and you might even win a prize. Special thanks to Jeff, who has agreed to be our Sandbar photographer.
10. Family-friendly. Even though we're a bar, this is a family-friendly event. And it's free, unless you want to go in the beer garden. So bring your kids and grandparents and come out for some family fun.
11. Support our neighbors. We have the best neighbors in downtown Lawrence. Every single one of them is supportive of this event, so please show them some love. Support them like you support us. And if you can't get to our bar fast enough, head over to one of our neighbors to enjoy food or drink.

It's no secret that we love social media at the Sandbar. We Facebook, tweet and upload pictures and videos. And of course we blog.
We'd love for you to party with us not only AT our block party on Saturday, but also online. Here's how.
Twitter:
- Follow us on Twitter @thesandbar. You don't have to have an account to see our tweets, but if you want to interact with us you'll need an account.
- If you tweet about our party, be sure to use the hashtag #sb21. There might be prizes!
- We'll also set up a TweetGrid soon so you can follow the conversation about the party in one place.
- Tweet your party pictures to us!
Facebook:
- "Like" our page on Facebook (our page settings require that Facebook can confirm you are at least 21 in order to become a fan).
- Upload your party pics to our Facebook page and tag your friends!
Flickr:
- Join our Flickr group to add your own party pictures. Be sure to tag them with #sb21.
- Even if you don't have a Flickr account, you can still upload your party pics and tag them, and we'll be able to find them.
- You can also check out our Flickr photostream, no account required.

- We love videos! Check out our video channel to see past videos.
- Upload your own party videos to YouTube. Tag them with #sb21 and let us know about it!
- No account is required to view videos. We'll upload party videos sometime next week. (Maybe. We still haven't uploaded last year's video!)
Foursquare/Gowalla/Whrrl/Etc:
- Check in on your preferred location-based social networking site!
- Look for the event "Sandbar 21st Birthday Bash and check in.
- Maybe we'll get another swarm badge!
Those are just a few of the ways you can participate online for our 21st birthday, whether you're at the party or halfway across the world.
We definitely want to see your pictures and videos, so be sure to tweet, Facebook, upload, or email them to us! And, we'll also be looking for a few good bloggers to write a recap of their party experience for us. So keep track of any funny stories from the party, because we'll be asking for them!

It's almost here! Just a few more days until our 21st birthday bash. Like last year, we ordered commemorative shirts.
Bartender Joe drew the original artwork (first published here) and then we turned it over to the fine folks at Hasty Awards in Ottawa to work their magic.

The shirts will be available at our block party on Saturday. If you can't make it to the party, we're happy to take email orders. Just send us an email at sandbar@thesandbar.com and let us know what size you need, and we can work out payment arrangements.
Shirts come in sizes small through double extra large, and they'll be $15 each.

Hey friends! Well, the video entries are in, and it’s time to vote for your favorite! We got one last minute entry, and since we’re nice, we accepted it. There’s a total of nine videos- watch them all and choose the one you like best.
Send it to your friends! The winner will get a year’s worth of free sandwiches from the newly opened Sandbar Sub Shop (inside Zarco66 on East 23rd Street), and their video clip will be featured in our next hurricane video.
