Talk Like a Pirate Day Tomorrow!

Aye, matey! Tomorrow is September 19. That means…it's Talk Like a Pirate Day!

This is an international holiday of fun started by a group of friends, and when Dave Barry mentioned it in his newspaper column once upon a time, the rest of the world got involved.

This year, there's a Google map filled with pirate parties around the world. Check it out here. We're not on the map because we aren't having an official party (and we didn't find out about the map until it was too late to be added anyway), but we're sharing it just in case you want to party with a bunch of pirates.

The head pirates are also collecting pictures from pirate parties for their Flickr gallery.

Dave ordered new pirate toys just for tomorrow. We'll have pirate eye patches to hand out with tropical drinks, so stop by and pretend you're a pirate for awhile.

One thing we noticed on the Talk Like a Pirate Day website that intrigued us…a mention of PirateSanta.com. We're very curious about what this might be. There's not much information on it yet.

More Sandbar Shirt Pics at the Kenny Chesney Concert

We love it when one of our "Around the World in a Sandbar Shirt" posts inspires someone to send us even more pictures!

Awhile back, we posted a picture submitted to us by Team Cocktail. A guy showed up at their tailgate before the Kenny Chesney concert wearing a green Sandbar shirt. Well, said guy saw the post and emailed us some more pictures!

Here's Sandbar friend Lonnie Ray and his lovely wife Sharon:

Love in a Sandbar shirt at a Kenny Chesney show! Thanks Lonnie, we'll add these to our wall of fame. If you have a Sandbar shirt picture from somewhere around the world, send it to us. Our wall in the front of the bar by the popcorn machine is full of great pictures, and we started a new wall in the back room.

Another Sandbar Baby

Here's another Sandbar T-shirt picture, but this one is a little different than the ones we usually get from customers!

Occasionally we get a request for a Sandbar onesie or kids T-shirt. If we have time, we'll print something for the lucky parent.

Lisa was a regular in the bar for a number of years and a friend of bartender Danny's, so he wanted to give her a Sandbar onesie when she had a baby:

According to Catherine's mama, "she only has 20 years, 6 months, 2 weeks, and and 3 more days till she is officially allowed in there…but who's counting??" We can't wait to meet her someday!

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day

Everybody knows St. Patrick's Day is our favorite holiday. Did you know this Saturday is the halfway point to the next extravaganza?

The Lawrence St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is kicking off the 25th annual parade season with a Halfway to St. Patrick's celebration on Sept. 17 from 5 p.m. to midnight. The street in front of the Sandbar will be the site of a street festival that features Irish music from Flannigan's Right Hook and Ashley Davis. The rock band Eminent Domain will close out the party.

EDIT: Flannigan's Right Hook has canceled their appearance. They'll be replaced by the Radio Flyers, followed by Ashley Davis and Eminent Domain. There will also be some members of the KC pipe and drum corps performing on the bagpipes.

The suggested donation is $5 per person. Alcohol will be available for sale outside; if you want to drink, you must be 21 and purchase a wristband. All money from donations and wristband sales will go towards the St. Patrick's Day committee's fundraising efforts. Since 1988, the parade and its activities have raised more than $645,000 for charities that benefit local youth. Area organizations can apply to be this year's beneficiary until Oct. 3. Visit www.lawrencestpatricksdayparade.com for more information.

Come out and see us on Saturday! The bar will be open as usual at 1 p.m. and our staff will be serving drinks outside in the evening starting around 5.

Sandbar Toys in the Kitchen and Bathroom

Not sure what to do with your Sandbar drink toys?

Sandbar friend David sent us a picture of his tropical-themed kitchen full of sharks and the tub where his rubber duckies reside.

David says "Our kitchen was already tropical-inspired to begin with, so adding Sandbar toys just seemed perfect! The wife's parents' house has always had a rubber ducky-themed bathroom so we tried to continue to have them in our bathroom at our house….so the ducks we get from the Sandbar end up there and the rest of the toys are in the kitchen on display!"

Where do you keep your Sandbar toys? Send us a picture, we'd love to see your collection!
