So, this is really old- like from last April- but I never got it posted here on the blog and I don't have anything else to post tonight, so here you go. This picture's already on our wall of fame with the other Sandbar shirt pictures.
Sandbar friend Seth uploaded this picture of his Sandbar shirt in Vegas to our Facebook page:
He was at the Tropicana In-N-Out Burger in Vegas.
We didn't get any stories about the trip from him, but his friend Christopher who was apparently along for the ride left this comment:
The best part of the trip (other than my crazy mad photography skills, of course) was the night we wound up drinking with 3 Irishmen. Of course, one of the side effects of drinking with 3 Irishmen is that you don't have a whole lot of clarity around the events of that evening…
Some of the Sandbar crew fondly remembers a little bit about our night in Vegas. We sort of drank with Irishmen- we spent a lot of time at Nine Fine Irishmen in New York, New York. Fun place.

Our friend and customer Andrew is a sports reporter for local Channel 6, and he likes to use his Sandbar toys as props for entertainment on the air.
This time, we got a heads up via Twitter, so we were able to grab our camera in time and snap a picture of the TV screen:
Our fun rainbow shades made their appearance on Useless Fieldhouse Trivia.
According to Andrew, he also rocked a mustache on a later broadcast. We haven't had a chance to watch that episode yet, but if it's on our DVR we'll take a picture.
We love that Lawrence and Channel 6 are fun enough to do things like this!

As you can imagine, the mats behind the bar can get pretty dirty.
Sometimes Dave takes them to the car wash and hoses them down. When it rains, he sometimes uses a much more basic solution: putting them outside by the curb and letting the rain wash them.
One time, it was raining so hard that the mats started to wash away down the street. Good thing the bartenders were paying attention and rescued the mats before they disappeared.

Today is a very special day- it's doorboy Ethan's 21st birthday!
Ethan is the little brother of bartender Hayley and the son of Dave's high school basketball coach. He started working at the door a few months ago, and now he can actually have a drink AND learn how to tend bar!
Ethan and Hayley and friends will be celebrating his birthday tonight at the Sandbar, of course.
If you're out and about, stop by and wish him a happy birthday.

We're so glad that so many of our friends are able to take tropical vacations so we can live vicariously through them!

You might remember that another couple sent in pictures recently from the Virgin Islands– and also from The Bathes. We're jealous!

Yes, New Year's Eve is a loooong way away. But it'll be here before we know it, and we want to be prepared!
We've got a lot of Halloween pint glasses in stock right now (why aren't you buying them, people?!) and Thanksgiving isn't too far away, so we're not going to do a special Thanksgiving glass this year. And we've already got a submission for a Christmas glass that we really love, so the next holiday is New Year's Eve. We haven't done a special glass for that holiday yet.
Got an idea? We'd love to see it! Check out last year's Thanksgiving, winter, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and graduation pint glasses for examples.
Here's what we're looking for:
- The design has to be a black and white line art drawing. We only print single-color designs, so a design with multiple colors won't work. Shadows and other shading won't work either.
- Keep it simple. Remember, pint glasses aren't huge and the design will only be a few inches in size. The design should be fairly basic and not have a lot of tiny detail, and it should also translate well to a small size.
- You don't need to include the Sandbar name or logo. Our logo will be on the other side of the glass.
Our panel of judges will choose their favorite design that also meets the above requirements. It's also possible that we'll choose more than one. And it's also possible that we might combine elements from more than one design into a new design.
What do you get if your design is chosen? Well, our undying gratitude and fifteen minutes of fame on our blog, for one. We'll also give you a pack of pint glasses and a T-shirt of your choice.
Submissions can be emailed to sandbar@thesandbar.com. We're also looking for a custom design for our first tropical drink, the Bahama Mama, so if you've got an idea for that one instead, send it to us.
Disclaimer stuff: submitting your design to us gives us full rights to use it on our websites, social networking sites and merchandise. We'll give you credit everywhere we can, of course.

Oh, the things we hear in line. I always say I'm going to go hang out in line at the bar sometime just so I can get more funny stories for this blog. Dave's little sister (yes, she waits in line) heard some good ones the Saturday before Halloween.
Apparently some young ladies were disgruntled by the fact they were stuck in line. One of them was overheard saying "These boobs are too good to wait in line. I'm too hot to wait in line." And supposedly she was planning to show the doorguy her chest, since of course that would convince him to let her in the bar instead of making her wait. I don't think she actually followed through, not that it would have mattered.
Entitled ladies (and gentlemen) of the world, please understand that you're not waiting in line because we like having a mob of people harass the doorguy about why they can't come in. This isn't a club in L.A. where the common folk are kept behind the velvet rope and the "hot" girls are allowed to waltz right in the door.
There are things called fire codes and building capacities, and a little thing like a thousand-dollar fine encourages us to obey those rules. You're in line because we have a legal number of people that we're allowed to have in the bar at one time.
Trust me, we'd love to let you all in the bar at once so you can spend your money.
In the meantime, please keep providing the other people in line with some laughs while you loudly scheme about how you're going to bribe the doorguy. Inevitably those stories find their way back to us.

Recently, her desire to go there became even greater- someone sent her this:
I don't know where in Ireland this Sandbar is located, but we'll surely find out one of these days. The ice cream cone on the corner of the building is a nice touch, too.

A bar can be a little bit like a daycare center, though it's not really the goal we have in mind. The bar is a great place for spouses or partners to take a break while their significant other shops, relaxes or just needs a break; but we prefer that people in the bar have the ability to look after themselves!

Yes, we're going to attempt National Blog Posting Month again in November. This is the third or fourth year we've signed on for this adventure, and I think we were successful maybe once. It's hard to post something every day, especially in a short month with a lot of holiday time!
